Entry qualification

Undergraduate diploma (or higher) To apply for this programme you need a Bachelor degree or its equivalent in in various fields of Humanities and Social Sciences (could be in related fields in Life or Natural Sciences that focused on societal aspects of technological transformation, climate change and public/global health and convincing explanation and strong motivation present). If your qualification and motivation match the programme, you will receive an invitation for an interview with the Admissions Committee. The selection criterion is based on the weighted average of all the grades recorded in the transcript of the applicant’s academic report, motivation, academic potential, work experience/professional qualifications. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

Language requirements

English In order for applicants to prove their command of English as the programme’s language of instruction and equaling a minimum of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the following non-exhaustive list functions as point of reference: • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL international): minimum score of 550 paper-based (or 213 computer-based or 80 internet-based); • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): minimum score of 6.5 (with no section less than 6.0); • Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE): Grades A, B, C; • Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): Grades A, B; • Certificates demonstrating that the applicant has studied for more than one year at or received a degree from a university at which English was the language of instruction; • Oral assessment during the selection interview; • Any other tests if assessed equivalent by the selection committee.

Europe is facing significant challenges in recent years. Alongside the just-ended global pandemic and the recent biggest military conflict on the subcontinent since World War II, defining a new concept of Europe will be a significant issue.
The Joint Master’s programme in European studies provides the opportunity to find the best solutions through an interdisciplinary approach. This is a great opportunity to study Europe with lecturers from the four forefront European universities.
During the first term, each student will study at one of the participating universities (chosen Entrance University), and during the second and/or third term, at a different participating university:
• University of Granada (Spain)
• Leipzig University (Germany)
• University of Graz (Austria)
• Vilnius University (Lithuania)
Physical mobility is greatly encouraged but is not compulsory in this programme. Preference is given to candidates who choose a physical mobility track within their application. Applicants can indicate a preference for the study places in the application. However, the selection committee makes the final decision on the mobility track with respect to the applicant’s preference, qualifications, and specialization.

Career opportunities

The Arqus Joint Master’s Programme “European Studies”, which puts particular emphasis on Europe as a global actor, is primarily designed as a scientific programme that trains students to work in the areas of research and research-based advice of various social actors in Europe and abroad. Graduation of the program also grants the right to pursue doctoral studies. At the same time, it prepares students for a number of professional fields outside of the university (for example, becoming a professional in intergovernmental institutions or public administration; or pursuing a career in journalism).
